You send your project out to several contractors for competitive pricing. You will be responsible to compare several offers and most likely select the bid that comes in lowest regardless of quality or workmanship.
For example, one contractor may bid lower than another contractor because they factored in lower-end appliances. You do not know the actual difference in the bid pricing, you just see that one bid is lower and one higher. Your actual cost will depend on the type of appliances you choose.
You jumped the gun and went to an architect with hopes of creating your dream project. They gave you everything on your list but with no foresight of what it will actually cost you.
The home project is new to you and you don’t know any contractors nor have any referrals. You bid out your project to various contractors and subcontractors. You can vet them out without any commitment. This may take a lot of your time and become all consuming before you get anywhere.
